Floreana Island

The next day, Sunday, we took a day trip to Floreana Island, the sixth largest island in the archipelago. On the cliffs we saw a huge nesting site for the frigate birds. The male frigate birds make a nest and puff up their throats and the females flying above look for the prettiest male with the best nest and choose him.
The marine iguanas on this island were more colorful, some reaching a bright teal blue, others bright green and dark pink. The change in the scenery from the lowlands to the highlands is drastic. It was stark dry near the coast and as we ascended into the highlands it began to drizzle.
We saw the only fresh water spring in the Galapagos and Asilo de la Paz, the maze of old volcanic ash caves that were once used by pirates and then later used as a refuge by the first colonists.

There is a tortoise reserve on this island. After visiting the tortoises we went back to the boat which returned us to Santa Cruz.
On way there we spotted a large pod of dolphins. They jumped and played around the boat and swam in front and below the bow.
